Founding Philosophy and Reasons
The Philosophy and Reasons for the Establishment of the College of Finance and Economics
Our university is Taiwan’s first business school, founded in 1917 (the 6th year of the Republic of China). Over a century, the university has adhered to its focus on "business" education, evolving through "Taipei Commercial School," "Taipei High School of Commerce," "Taipei Technical College of Commerce," to "National Taipei College of Business and Technology." It has always been a leader in Taiwan’s business technical and vocational education system. Today, to respond to changes in society and education environments, meet the expectations of students aspiring to business education, and align teaching resources with the demands for economic development, the university has pursued rebranding as the "National Taipei University of Business."
To move towards the vision of becoming "a top-notch business university cultivating elite talents and driving business prospects," while achieving the educational goals of "professional expertise, global vision, and social care," the college actively plans the scale and development of its programs to foster six core competencies in students: practical skills, creativity and innovation, foreign language applications, multicultural understanding, moral integrity, and social engagement.
The college was established in 2014, following preparation in 2012. Building on a strong foundation of programs, it aligns with national economic and industrial development needs for business talent. Within five years, it has expanded its organization, established comprehensive regulations and systems, integrated cross-disciplinary development, and developed unique professional features. Currently, it includes a doctoral program (enrollment began in 2019), departments of Accounting Information (including a master's program), Finance (including a master's program), Public Finance and Taxation (including a master's program), International Business (including a master's program), and an English-taught master's program in Trade Practice, Law, and Negotiation. The college also offers an overseas Executive MBA program and has established centers for financial technology and anti-money laundering.
The college has long been the first choice for students. Since its establishment, it has clearly focused on integrating business expertise, aligning with practical applications, embracing technological advancements, innovating curriculum design, implementing character-based leadership education, and fostering global vision and mobility. Facing globalization, declining birthrates, intense competition, and the rise of the digital economy, the college is committed to optimizing teaching innovation, quality, and learning environments, strengthening connections between faculty and industry, deepening practical industry-academic research, and helping industries innovate and transform. The college is actively pursuing AACSB accreditation to enhance educational quality and international recognition, aiming for a professional, practical, digital, innovative, character-based, and globalized development path, achieving sustainable excellence.
